Freaking ecstatic this morning. And appropriately enough, it is a beautiful day here in Bristol. Bright blue sky, no clouds, comfy fall temperatures. Gorgeous.

And can I say bursting with pride in my home state? Thank you, Virginia. God's Country is goddamn right, therestlessdawn !

Stayed up way too late last night. Called everyone I could think of. Danced around Orgrimmar with a bunch of strangers, /yell-ing "YES WE CAN!!!" in WoW. Silliness.

And now, back to work.

It occurs to me I haven't really blogged in awhile, so it's time for another update. The past few days have been lovely and cool (I actually got to wear sweaters, yay!) and fall-like. At last! Happy Autumn, everyone.

Last Monday (the 22nd, I think) was the autumnal equinox, and Ben and I decided to declare it a holiday. We took the day off from work, did a little smidge of fall cleaning, and decorated our porch with our usual array of pumpkins, gourds, foddershocks and hay bales. Ben made a special seasonal dinner that was amazingly tasty (especially since he just made it up!) - Beef Fajitas with Habanero Pumpkin Picante.

The link above leads to a recipe blog I'm putting together for a project I'm working on via the BPAL forum. It's called Switch Witch, and it's kind of like Secret Santa. Only for Halloween (this time around; they do it 3 or 4 times a year). The idea is, everyone who participates fills out a questionnaire about his/her interests, hobbies, tastes, etc. The people who organize it mix them up and distribute them among participants. So it's not like a straight swap, where person A gets person B's questionnaire, and person B gets A's questionnaire. It's randomly mixed. So you get a questionnaire, and send a gift (or several) to your "witchee." And your witch (whoever that may be) sends you a gift or gifts. There's a deadline by which everyone has to at least receive one thing. And that's pretty much it. Some people reveal their identities immediately; others wait until the end, or remain anonymous period.

This has been a lot of fun. I'm having a great time getting gift packs together for my witchee. I've sent her one package, and had some chocolates shipped directly to her from The Chocolate Fetish. The recipe blog is a little DIY project, because she said she'd like some new recipes. I haven't gotten a package yet from my witch, so I think he/she may be waiting the reveal him/herself until the end. I have been contacted, however, and my witch lives in "a magical land of spicy foods," so I'm eagerly anticipating potential spicy treats.

I also have a new hobby. I've been making ribbon necklaces. I started doing this because I like putting my scent lockets on ribbons, and wanted one with an actual clasp so I didn't have to rely on tying them. In the process of buying clasp-attaching materials, I found a bunch of Halloween themed ribbons, so I got those too. Once I made ribbons for myself, I realized I had a ton left over, and decided to put them up on the BPAL forums for sale or swap (I am not the only one with the locket/ribbon dilemma). And it's sort of evolved from there. I just set up an Etsy shop, and I have a couple of necklaces I made up there now. I'm going to start posting plain ribbons, to which you can add your own locket or pendant (or not, whatever) this weekend. I just need to take some photos of them.

So that's what I've been up to lately. And work. Crazy busy work, as usual.

My Halloweenie scents from BPAL have landed! *dances around madly*

And they remembered to include my replacement bottle of Snow, Glass, Apples (the first bottle having been stolen from my package by unscrupulous postal workers)! *more dancing*

The art on the bottles is super cute, especially the Sleepy Hollow ones. I also got a ton of free samples (like, um, 20. seriously.)

AND... my second scent locket arrived today! *still more dancing* It is very beautiful. I will post a photo soon.

So yes, I have a lot of sniffing to do in my future. I have tested a couple of the Halloweenies already, and love them both. Autumn scents are my favorites, and these are really great. So yay. For those of you on my BPAL filter, I'll be posting reviews as I try stuff.

Whew! Another insane week here in Bristol, and I'm glad to see it come to an end. Looking forward to a fun weekend. Going to the weekly wine tasting at Inari on Saturday, then hanging out with our friend Mac and the pups (our dog Koto and Mac's dog, Pepper, who is awesomely sweet). There's also, oddly, an electro show at the Renaissance Center in Kingsport (of all places) that we'll probably go to Saturday night.

Sunday, we're hoping to go canoeing! We've been trying to get out and do some things outdoors while the weather's nice. Last Sunday, we went biking on the Virginia Creeper Trail. 30 MILES ON THE CREEPER TRAIL... lol. It was lots of fun, but we totally overdid it. We were seriously suffering Monday. Hopefully this weekend we'll exercise a little more sense.

Excitement in my world: BPAL's Halloween update (and August lunacy oils) went live last night. This year's special Halloween theme is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I am psyched. I've already ordered some, and will probably get more next month (the Halloween limited editions are available until 11/15, so I've got time). As much as I'm looking forward to them, I am sooooo glad the Neil Gaiman scent lockets didn't come out with this update. My wallet is crying as it is.

So that's my world. Tons of work. Some fun. Wine. Scents. And still working my way through the huge stack of books I splurged on last month (and one I picked up last week).

Had a very nice, relaxing weekend. On Friday evening, Ben and I met up with some friends, Paul and Aulikki (and a couple of their friends) for dinner at Machiavelli's, Bristol's new Italian restaurant. It was Aulikki's birthday, and we had a great time. Good food, good company, etc.

On Saturday morning, we got up and headed to the farmer's market to stock up on fruits, veggies, and free-range meats of varying kinds. We got a ton of stuff, which we desperately needed, as we hadn't made a serious farmer's market trip in a month or more. Among the various goodies we picked up, we got a half-baked pizza from Scratch Brick Oven (yum!), which made quite a tasty lunch.

After the farmer's market trip and lunch, we took the dog to PetSmart. This was Koto's first PetSmart trip, and he had a blast. We let him pick out a toy (basically, he sniffed the toy aisle, and we bought the thing he picked up), and got cat food, scratchers, dog treats, etc.

Later in the afternoon, we went to the tasting at Inari, which was fun as usual, then off to see Hellboy 2. I really liked the movie, although I'm not sure I liked it better than the first one. I need to watch it again.

After the movie, we headed back to Machiavelli's, where we met up with some friends (Mac & Meryl and Austin & Becky) for dinner, followed by hanging out at Mac & Meryl's for the rest of the evening. We had a great time, and eventually shuffled off home to bed.

Sunday was mostly all about the chores (booo!). Later in the afternoon, our friend Paul came by to play basketball with Ben, and we got to try out his new car, a Honda S2000. Silver convertible 2-seater. It was lots of fun to drive (although I still like our car better). I took it out Weaver Pike, through Hickory Tree, and back up 421. Fun, fun, fun.

Finally, Ben grilled a pork tenderloin for dinner last night, accompanied by a tasty tomato and red onion chutney, saffron rice, and a bottle of Wild Horse cab. Very tasty. We ate dinner and watched Mr. Bean's Holiday and The Matrix Reloaded.

And that was pretty much our weekend. Mostly fun and relaxation, with a bit of errand-running and chores thrown in.

Apparently Obama is speaking at one of our local high schools today. Ben and I didn't hear anything about this until today (and it seems, from what I'm hearing, a lot of people hadn't heard). Pre-distributed tickets are required, which of course we don't have, so we can't go.

Our newspaper really blew it on this one. There's a really short mention of Obama's visit on the newspaper's website dated Tuesday, stating that the tickets would be distributed at the high school... on Tuesday. Nothing appeared in the print edition until Wednesday. You know, once it was too late.

So that sucks. Ah, well. I was a Clinton supporter, but really, I'm ok with either of them. I'm backing Anybody But a Republican in '08... or, let's be honest, ever. What I really wish is that they'd both swallow their pride and make Clinton Obama's running mate. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, and I think they'd balance each other well.

Anyway, so we're going to leave a little early for lunch and watch it on TV.

Back at it this morning. Sitting at my laptop with a cup of coffee, going through emails and such.

I had a pretty good weekend. The wine dinner at Sahib was great, although in general, I think we prefer to choose our own wines. We met some nice people there, and after dinner, headed over to the Acoustic Coffeehouse with them for a little while (Austin: Didn't get your text until Sunday morning :( ). We got home really late, much later than I realized, around 2:30 or so. I know this because I appear to have sent a text message to my friend Steve around 2 am (which would have been on the way home) that I absolutely do not remember. I think I was sleep-texting.

On the sleep front, I managed to get caught up on some sleep yesterday, I think. Slept until around 8 am (which still isn't much, considering how late we got in), but I managed to get in some good napping in the afternoon. It was a pretty lazy day overall. We just hung out, watched some movies, played a little WoW on the laptops. Made a pizza for dinner and watched a couple more movies and the most recent episode of This American Life on Showtime.

Now it's Monday, and looks to be a fairly busy day, in part because I've got several errands to run. Also, it's my mom's birthday tomorrow, and a) I need to find her a present, b) I need to get ahead with work stuff if I can because I'm taking Tuesday off to spend with her.

So I'll leave you with this latest bit of Brightcat cuteness. This morning, Ben found a perfectly preserved Brightcat print in a bowl that he'd been using to drain the oil of hamburger and such. We're going to try to preserve it with plaster or something.

On Vox: Thanksgiving already? How'd that happen?

The past month has really slipped away from me quickly. We've been very busy since we got back from Italy, playing catchup from our trip and helping retail clients get ready for the holiday season. Whew!

We still haven't finished processing our Italy photos, but we're planning on finishing that up over the impending holiday. Other than that, Ben and I plan on spending a nice, quiet Thanksgiving at home. We ordered Thanksgiving-to-Go from the Troutdale (actually cheaper than making it at home, if you do the math, and unlike them, we aren't gourmet cooks), so yay.

I'm actually starting to get into the holiday spirit a tiny bit. Monday was downtown Bristol's annual Christmas Open House. I only had time to go by Inari, because I'm taking a chakras class on Monday evenings, but it was enough. I was a little sad to miss the rest of it, because Ben and I have gone every year since we moved to Bristol, and I always look forward to it. Inari was great as always, though.

Speaking of which, Ben and I will be appearing in a commercial Inari had made this morning. (We play shoppers, i.e. ourselves). We also helped them with the voice-over script, since that's sort of what we do. It was fun, and I can't wait to see the finished product.

Yesterday Ben and I got married. The wedding was awesome. Everything we had planned went well, and everyone seemed to have a good time.

The best thing about the wedding (other than the getting married part, of course) was having our friends and family there with us. We got to see a lot of our friends from out of town, who we don't get to see often. We were so happy everyone could come. It was great!
